Within the course of the International Conference on Opposing Extremism and Terrorism that is taking place in Cairo, first deputy chairman of Russia Muftis Council Rushan hazrat Abbyasov met with the Sheikh of Al-Azhar University Ahmed el-Tayeb.

During the meeting, Rushan hazrat Abbyasov conveyed the greetings on behalf of Russia Muftis Council and its Chairman mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin and thanked the Sheikh for the opportunity to take part in this important event. He told about the projects and events organized by Russia Muftis Council, such as the Moscow International Qur'an Reciting Competition, Moscow Halal Expo exhibition, Mawlid an-Nabi, the Tent of Ramadan, International Muslim Forum, conferences on Islamic banking and economics and others. He also invited the Sheikh to visit Russia to take part in RMC events.

Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, in his turn, told that he is familiar with RMC activities and expressed his hope that they will successfully show the society the true values of Islam that contrast with extremist and radical ideas.

It is worth noting that during his speech at the International Conference on Opposing Extremism and Terrorism, Sheikh el-Tayeb categorically denounced the actions of the "Islamic State" terrorist group.

"Radical elements hide behind the name of Islam to commit their barbarous crimes. They called themselves "The Islamic State" to malign our religion and spread their false beliefs," he said.
