Destruction of an old mosque in Arkhangelsk by fire came as a bitter news for Muslims during the Holy month of Ramadan.

A big fire happened last evening at the intersection of Karl Marx street and Novgorod avenue in the city of Arkhangelsk. The two-storey building of a century-old mosque that had been on renovation since 2012 was practically destroyed by fire.

According to preliminary investigation, the fire was caused by arson. This is the second burnt mosque within this year's month of Ramadan.

Russia Muftis Council calls upon law enforcement agencies to prevent such extremist, anti-religious, anti-Islamic acts, and upon regional authorities for help to restore the historical mosque as soon as possible.

We would also like to address Muslims: please do not answer to provocations, be tolerant and direct all your efforts and financial resources to the reconstruction of our mosque.
