According to RIA Novosti, presidents of Russia and Iran discussed cooperation in energy sphere and regional cooperation, including that in Caspian area.

In his opening word, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia and Iran are both major exporters of natural gas. “We pursue common goal in this matter,” said Mr. Putin.

He also said that during the meeting, parties will have an opportunity to discuss regional situation and the means to boost goods exchange between the two countries. “We are neighbors in the Caspian Region, and we have common interests here,” he added.
