News agencies report that the Religious Centre was opened at the Main International Centre (MIC) of the Universiade Village. Special prayer rooms are situated on the last two flours of Main International Center. These rooms will be open for all comers, 24 hours a day.
The centre has halls for the adherents of six main religious confessions: Islam, Orthodox Christianity, Catholicism, Protestantism, Judaism and Buddhism. They were given eight rooms, including separate praying rooms for Muslim men and women and reconciliation room for Buddhists. Each hall is decorated in accordance with the traditions of the corresponding religion. The size of each room is about 70 square meters.
Mayor of the Universiade Village Farid Abdulganiev told the journalists that this complex is one of the requirements of FISU. Their main requirements were sufficient floor space (not less than 200 square meters in total), solitude of religions and separate entrance; in addition, the Religious Center must have been connected with the MIC. According to Mr Abdulganiev, the center was designed by the Chief Architect of Barselona Josep Acebillo and finished by “Tatinvestgrazhdanproekt”.
“We can say that the Religious Centre is cosy, comfortable and friendly,” said the Mayor. He also told of the future of the center. After July 20, when the last participant of the Universiade leaves the Village, the center will be closed and its property given to the corresponding religious confessions.
