Spiritual leaders and religious figures from dozens of countries visited the towns of Fizuli, Aghdam, Khankendi and Shusha in liberated Karabakh on 7 November. The visit took place within the framework of the Global Summit of Religious Leaders on the margins of COP29 in Baku. Chairman of the Russian RBM Chief Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin performed prayers and offered dua in the revived historical mosques of Karabakh.
The participants of the event performed collective prayers in the Juma Mosque of Aghdam, a cultural monument of regional significance built in 1868, and in the Govhar Aga Mosque in Shusha, which traces its history back to the early 1750s and was rebuilt in its current architectural form in 1883. After the liberation of Karabakh, both mosques were restored under the patronage of President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
‘It was important for me to go to Karabakh and see with my own eyes the restored Muslim historical shrines and make sure that peaceful life is restored in this region. I appeal to the Almighty with pleas to preserve and strengthen this peace, grant the ancient land of Garabagh and its peoples prosperity,’ the spiritual leader of Russian Muslims commented on his visit to the republican press.
