Muslims of Russia and UAE sign a memorandum of understanding The Russian Muslims and the United Arab Emirates have taken an important step by signing a Memorandum of Understanding. The document was signed by Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia and the Russia Muftis Council, and Mohammad Matar Al Kaabi, chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments. The event took place during the visit of the RBMRF delegation to the UAE.

The signing ceremony was preceded by a meeting attended by the Mufti deputies Rushan Abbyasov and Ildar Galeyev, Dinar Gainetdinov (chief protocol officer of the RBMRF), Pavel Rassadin (Deputy Ambassador of Russia to the UAE)  deputy heads of the UAE Islamic Affairs and Endowment department and the heads of departments.

During the meeting Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin noted the importance of cooperation in areas related to fatwa issuing, halal industry, science, culture, education, book publishing, etc.

"The United Arab Emirates contribute greatly to enhancing stability and developing inter-civilization and interfaith dialogue. The UAE is characterized by tolerance and peaceful coexistence of people with various cultural and religious background, similarly to Russia, where almost 200 peoples have coexisted peacefully throughout the centuries", noted Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin.

He added that there is an Orthodox church, a mosque and a synagogue on the Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow and compared it to the interfaith temple, or Abrahamic Family House, which will open on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi on March 1, 2023.

The Mufti also added that religious ties and contacts between the Muslim communities of the two countries are developing with the active support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the UAE Embassy in Russia, headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Muhammad Ahmad Al-Jaber. The UAE representatives take part in different activities organized by the RMC. Muhammad Matar Al-Kaabi noted that he participated in the conferences organized by the Religious Board in connection with the 1100th anniversary of the official adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgarians.

When discussing the Russian-Emirati relations as a whole, the parties noted  the high level of political dialogue and delegation visits were due to the relationship between the presidents of the two states Vladimir Putin and Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan. On behalf of the Russian society and Russian Muslims, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin thanked the Emirati authorities for their efforts aimed at cooperation with the Russian Federation despite the current situation.

In his turn, the chairman of the UAE General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments noted that the meeting and the signing of the Memorandum are fully consistent with the strategic course of development of Russia-Emirati relations based on friendship and mutual respect.
