Joint projects planned with IRCICA During his visit to Istanbul, Damir Mukhetdinov, first deputy chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, doctor of theology, met with the director  of the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), Professor Mahmud Erol Kilic, on 21 December. The parties discussed possible cooperation between IRCICA and the Moscow Islamic Institute and the Centre for Islamic Studies of St. Petersburg State University. The short-term joint projects were proposed due to the forthcoming 200th anniversary of the Turkologist, orientalist and theologian Khusain Faizkhanov (1823-1866). These projects include the translation and publication of the manuscripts of this outstanding Tatar thinker. Established in 1979, IRCICA is an autonomous body of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Since 1983, IRCICA serves as the International Commission for Preservation of Islamic Heritage, which was incorporated into the Centre in 2000 by decision of the 27th Islamic Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs. In early 2000s, the Centre supported the study of the historical, intellectual and religious legacy of Russian Muslims.

The previous dirctor of IRCICA, Dr. Halit Eren, had visited Russia on several occasions, attending the 7th Congress of the RBMRF and participating in the 6th Fahretdin Readings in September 2019.

The Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation has a long-standing cooperation with the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture.
