Russian and Syrian Muslims develop cooperation in the media field A delegation of young Syrian journalists led by Professor Ahmed Ali Al-Shaarawi, adviser to the Russian-Syrian Business Council and lecturer at the Damascus University, visited the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

The guests were received by Rushan Abbyasov, first deputy chairman of the Russia Muftis Council, deputy chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation. Ruslan Emirveliev, deputy head of the Public Diplomacy Department of Rossotrudnichestvo, Radik Amirov, special correspondent of the "Russia Today", and Ildar Galeyev, head of the International Department of the RBMRF also participated in the meeting.

Rushan Abbyasov spoke about the history and the current state of the Muslim Ummah in Russia, the projects aimed at developing the Muslim infrastructure, strengthening the position of Russia in the world and development of brotherly relations with fellow believers abroad. He also noted that the Religious Board closely cooperates with the accreadited Arab-Muslim media in Russia, and organizes a special iftar for journalists during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The first deputy chairman of the RMC proposed to develop the Russian-Syrian cooperation in the field of information in every possible way and the guests welcomed this proposal. The participants suggested to create a series of joint documentaries on the history, culture and life of the Muslim peoples of Russia and translate the existing documentaries of the RBMRF and RMC into the Arabic language for broadcasting in Syria.

Ruslan Emirveliyev said that the long-standing cooperation between the RBMRF, RMC and Rossotrudnichestvo is also relevant to Syria. "This year we opened a school in the suburbs of Damascus, together with the charitable foundation "Zakyat", and also provided humanitarian assistance to people," he said.

At the end of the meeting, the journalists were offered a tour of the mosque.
