Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin meets Ambassador of Jordan The chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation and the Russian Muftis Council, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Jordan to the Russian Federation, Mr Khaled Shawabkeh.

The meeting was also attended by Rushan Abbyasov, deputy chairman of the Russian Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, and Ildar Galeyev, head of the International Department of the RMC and the RBMRF, deputy chairman Ildar Nurimanov and a diplomat at the Jordanian Embassy, Mr M. Amjad.

At the beginning of the meeting Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin conveyed greetings and best wishes to His Majesty King Abdullah II and all the Jordanian people.

"Thanks to the friendly relations between Vladimir Putin and Abdullah II, we are witnessing a steady development of bilateral contacts. A solid foundation has been established for Russian-Jordanian relations, which covers various spheres — from nuclear energy to trade and economy. We are happy to know that His Majesty King Abdullah II is pursuing a well-balanced policy aimed at establishing strong partnership relations with Russia," said Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin. He emphasized that the King of Jordan worked hard to fight stereotypes about Islam and Muslims by using various international platforms and defending the true values of Islam, such as tolerance, good-neighbourliness and mutual respect.

The religious leader of Russian Muslims noted that the visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the Cathedral Mosque during his last visit to Moscow gave a boost to Russian-Jordanian relations in the Islamic sphere.

Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin also informed the Jordanian Ambassador that a memorandum on cooperation between the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation and the Fatwa Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is expected to be signed in the near future.

The parties also discussed issues aimed at expanding the existing cooperation. In particular, they agreed to expand hajj and umrah programmes to include visits to Islamic landmarks in Jordan, as well as visits to Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The agenda also included discussion of events marking the Amman Message.

The religious leader of the Russian Muslims informed the Jordanian representatives about the forthcoming celebrations of the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgarians in 2022 and invited them to take part in these activities.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Jordan to the Russian Federation Khaled Shawabkeh expressed gratitude to Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin for the provided opportunity to visit the major mosque of the country, Moscow Cathedral Mosque. He also confirmed that the Jordanian Embassy would continue close interaction with Muslims of Russia, which should contribute to further development of friendly relations between the two countries.
