New milestone in relationship between Russia and Egypt On Monday, 21 December, a memorandum on cooperation was signed between the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation represented by Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, chairman of the RMC, and the Egyptian Fatwa authority and the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide represented by Supreme Mufti of Egypt Shawki Allam. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt to the Russian Federation Ihab Nasser also took part in the this event.

The parties agreed to conduct joint scientific conferences and forums with regard to theological studies, fatwas and discussions on fighting extremism and terrorism.

In his welcoming speech the religious leader of Russian Muslims, chairman of the Russian Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin noted the importance of interaction and cooperation with the Egyptian "Darul-ifta".

According to Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, the memorandum will become a new milestone in cooperation between Muslims of Russia and Egypt.

The memorandum signing took place during the launch of quarterly advanced training courses for members of the Ulema Council under the Russian RBM.

"The Council of Ulema is an independent body created by people who care about the future of the Russian theology. Its objective is to convey Muslim theology in a modern way and to present solutions for relevant challenges. We live in an era of collective Ijtihad, when many scholars can make decisions on emerging issues.Therefore, the role of specialized institutions in making theological and legal decisions has increased. The Ulema Council has repeatedly proved its competence in resolving difficult issues that required a well-thought theological decision," said Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin. He also stressed that, for several years, the Ulema Council of the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia has been actively preparing and issuing theological and legal conclusions.

The chairman of the RMC also noted that the current advanced training courses are held in partnership with the Fatwa Authority.

According to the document, the parties also agreed to cooperate in different field, including cultural, educational and scientific project.

In his turn, the Supreme Mufti of Egypt Shawki Allam stressed that the signing of the memorandum was the result of strong relations between the RBMRF and the Egyptian Fatwa Authority, expressing hope for further expansion of this cooperation.

"I am confident that through the signing of this memorandum we will jointly explore new opportunities in various fields, particularly in the field of theology, publishing fatwas and Islamic sciences, which will allow us to implement common mission and reach common goals," he said.

Ihab Nasser, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt to Russia, added that the signing of this agreement was the result of long-term cooperation between Islamic institutions and organisations in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Russian Federation.
