Damir Muketdinov discussed cooperation with the Istanbul University On 2 November Damir Mukhetdinov, first deputy chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia, principal of the Moscow Islamic University, met prof. Mahmut Ak, principal of the Istanbul University, Doctor in Historical Sciences, and prof. Ilyas Topsakal, vice-principal for International Cooperation, Doctor in Historical Sciences. The parties discussed joint research projects of the Istanbul University and St. Petersburg State University represented by the Centre for Islamic Studies and the Moscow Islamic Institute.

Damir Mukhetdinov conveyed the greetings from Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, religious leader of Russian Muslims and head of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, as well as Professor N.M. Kropachev, principal of the St. Petersburg State University, and presented some books of the Medina Publishing House as memorable gifts.

The representatives of the Istanbul University expressed their readiness to participate as co-organisers in scientific events dedicated to the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the state of Volga Bulgaria. The parties also touched upon the issues of student exchange, as well as joint publishing initiatives and research projects. Professor Mahmut Ak declared his intention to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg in the nearest future.

The joint projects were discussed in details during the follow-up meetings of D. Mukhetdinov with prof. Ramazan Muslu (Assistant Chairman of the Department of Religious Affairs of Turkey, dean of the Theology Department of the Istanbul University, Doctor of Sciences), Ahmet Temel (deputy dean for International Educational Programmes, Doctor of Sciences) and prof. Metin Unver (deputy dean of the Literature department, Doctor of Historical Sciences).
