On August 5 Rushan Abbyasov (first deputy chairman of the Russian Muftis Council) met the minister-counsellor of the Embassy of Algeria in Russia, Ismail Merabet. The meeting took place in connection with the termination of Mr. Marabet's diplomatic mission in Russia. The meeting was attended by Ildar Galeyev ( head of the international department) and Dr. Salem Zalam (leading specialist of the department).

Rushan Abbyasov conveyed to the guest the greetings from the leader of Russian Muslims, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, and thanked Ismail Merabet for his contribution to strengthening relations between the Muslim communities of Russia and Algeria. 

In 2009, the Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, and the Minister for Religious Affairs and Awqaf of Algeria, Abu Abdullah Gulamullah, signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the Russian Muftis Council and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Awqaf of Algeria. This Memorandum has become a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations and the implementation of joint projects.

The Embassy of Algeria in Russia plays a special role in the implementation of the Memorandum. Both parties maintain close cooperation in the educational field. Thus, Algerian hafizs (Qur'an reciters) participate annually in the Moscow International Quran Reciting Competition, and Russian hafizs regularly visit Algeria to know more about the cultural and historical heritage of the country. In addition, representatives of the Embassy participate in the Quds Day, which is traditionally held on the last Friday of Ramadhan at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

It should be noted that thanks to the Embassy's support the cooperation between of the Russian Muftis Council with Algeria reached a new level. In particular, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin established contacts with the President of Algeria Abdelmajid Tebboune.

The parties discussed the further development of cooperation and agreed to organize a visit of the Ambassador of Algeria to the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, as well as his meeting with Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin.

At the end of the meeting, Rushan Abbyasov wished Mr. Ismail Merabet success in his future work and handed over the note of acknowledgment from the Chairman of the RMC Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin for developing ties and strengthening friendship between the peoples of Russia and Algeria.
