Cooperation of Russian and Turkish Muslims Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin had a meeting with Omar Faruk Savuran, Counselor of the Turkish Embassy in Russia, at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

The meeting was attended by Rais Yanglichev (employee of the Department of Religious Affairs of the Embassy of Turkey in Moscow), Rushan Abbyasov (first deputy chairman of the Russian Muftis Council), Damir Mukhetdinov (first deputy chairman of the RBMRF), Ildar Alyautdinov (deputy chairman of the RBMRF), Ildar Galeyev (head of the International Department of the RMC).

Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin congratulated the guest on taking office and wished him success in his work. The parties noted that the relations between the leaders of the countries, Vladimir Putin and Recep Erdogan, were marked by a high level of trust.

“The Russian Muslims are very happy with the interaction between Moscow and Ankara, and we hope that this cooperation will develop further. The implementation of projects in the energy field and other areas contributes to the well-being of our states, the peoples of Turkey and Russia, the European countries, and the whole world", said Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin. He also emphasized that the Russian Muslims greatly appreciated the enhanced cooperation of our countries at the international stage and the efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability.

During the meeting, the parties discussed ongoing cooperation, joint projects and activities. The participants mentioned that the relationship between the Russian Muftis Council, the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation and the Directorate of Religious Affairs had existed for many years and expressed their willingness to strengthen these ties.

Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin said that the visit of the RMC delegation to Turkey last spring gave momentum to bilateral cooperation. He also mentioned a high-level conference, which was held in Berlin in 2019 with the participation of the head of the Directorate for Religious Affairs of Turkey, Dr. Ali Erbas.

The parties discussed the issues related to the implementation of joint projects in the field of education, advanced training for imams, book publishing, academic conferences, participation of the Turkish representatives in major events organized by the RMC, in particular, the International Quran Reciting Competition, which will be held in April 2020.

During the meeting, the parties agreed on the implementation of some joint projects in 2020 and outlined the plans for a number of cultural, educational and social projects, including those related to book publishing.

In addition, the parties confirmed the need to intensify cooperation within the framework of the Russian-Turkish public forum.

The head of the RMC came up with a proposal to hold a unique photo exhibition “Islamic traditions in Russia” in Ankara or Istanbul. This exhibition, which opened in Brunei and is currently taking place in the capital of Indonesia - Jakarta, has great potential, since its visitors have an opportunity to know more about the life of Russian Muslims.

Omar Faruk Savuran noted that they appreciated the efforts of the Russian Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation aimed at developing the Muslim infrastructure in Russia, strengthening interfaith dialogue, and presenting Islamic traditions in Russia.

At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in cooperation for the benefit of both countries.
