The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Luxembourg in Russia, Jean-Claude Knebeler, visited the Moscow Cathedral Mosque to meet with the Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Gilles BAUER (deputy head of the diplomatic mission), Svetlana Usova (interpreter), Rushan Abbyaso (first deputy chairman of the RMC), Ildar Nurimanov (chief of staff of the RBM RF), and Ildar Galeev (head of the international department).

 At the beginning of the meeting, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin emphasized the importance of diplomatic relations between Russia and Luxembourg, which were established 125 years ago.

During the conversation, the religious leader acquainted Mr. Ambassador Jean-Claude Knebeler with the history of the Russian ummah, formation of  the Islamic infrastructure and Islamic religious institutions in Russia. Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin also mentioned that the latter have received religious freedom and the opportunities to work for the benefit of the society, interfaith peace and harmony.

The head of the Russian Muslims invited the official Islamic institutions of Luxembourg to participate in the 16th International Muslim Forum, which will be held this year in Paris.

The Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin also mentioned other events and programs organized by the RMC and the Religious Board, such as International Qur'an Reciting Competition, International Conference "Spiritual Silk Road", Moscow Halal Expo International Exhibition, etc.

Mr. Knebeler's demonstrated a great interest in the Kazan International Muslim Film Festival, held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov.

The parties also discussed such issues as adaptation of migrants, self-identification of European Muslims, the ways of preventing terrorism and radicalism among the youth.

At the end of the meeting the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Luxembourg thanked Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin for the opportunity to exchange ideas and a meaningful conversation.
