Today the first deputy of the Religious Board of Russian Muslims, principal of the Moscow Islamic University, Damir Mukhetdinov met Mikel Iriso, advisor for political affairs at the embassy of Spain in Russia. It was the first visit of the diplomat to the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

Damir Mukhetdinov conveyed greetings on behalf of mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, informed the guest about the activities of the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia and the Russia Muftis Council. Apart from that, he also spoke about the Moscow Islamic University, as well as projects implemented by Russian Muslims in the field of education and interfaith dialogue.

“There are about 25 mln Muslims in Russia, mostly young and active. We are working on restoring our connection with theological school, which was lost during the Soviet era”, — said Damir Mukhetdinov.

Mr Mikel Iriso thanked the representative of the Russia Muftis Council for the detailed report and expressed willingness to establish mutually beneficial cooperation with Russian Muslims.

The meeting was held in a friendly environment. The parties reached understanding on many issues discussed during negotiations.
