A meeting with the National Awakening Party of Indonesia represented by deputies of the People’s Representative Council of Indonesia and led by the Party’s Chairman, Mr Muhaimin Iskandar, was organized upon the initiative of the Embassy of Indonesia in Russia in the Moscow Cathedral Mosque. The delegation was received by Ildar Galeyev, head of the International Department of the Russia Muftis Council.

During the meeting the parties discussed bilateral cooperation, as well as joint events and projects.

The delegates of the National Awakening Party expressed great interest in cooperation in the educational and cultural area.

Mr Muhaimin Iskandar expressed the hope that Cultural Days of Indonesia would be held in Russian regions with an emphasis put on the Islamic element of the Indonesian culture, and confirmed his readiness to provide quotas for Russian students in the leading Islamic universities.

The Indonesian deputies expressed a high opinion of the Russian-Indonesian cooperation in the religious field, emphasizing the legal basis of this cooperation in the form of memorandums on understanding and cooperation with leading religious organizations of Indonesia, such as Muhammadiya, Nahdat al-Ulama, Majlis al-Ulama.

The parties agreed to pursue a mutually beneficial cooperation and to arrange a visit of a delegation of Russian Muslims to Indonesia.
