A big day for Islam Greeting words of mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin at the opening of the new building of Moscow Jum'ah (Cathedral) Mosque. Moscow, Russia, September 23, 2015.

Your Excellencies: Mr President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. Mr President of the Turkish Republic Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Mr President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas.

Dear Chairmen of Parliaments, dear ministers!

Dear guests of the opening ceremony of the new building of Moscow Jum'ah Mosque!

Dear brothers and sisters!

On behalf of 20 millions of Russian Muslims, Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of the Russian Federation, Russia Muftis Council, let me greet you all with a brotherly Muslim greeting: As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatuLlahi wa barakatuhu! - Peace be upon you, Mercy of Allah and His blessings!

I ask Almighty Allah that He makes this event promote peace, brotherhood and advance neighbourly and mutually beneficial relations between nations, peoples and cultures.

Over ten years ago, our national leader Vladimir Putin became the first leader who called Russia "Muslim country too." No Tsar, no emperor, no general secretary of the communist party before him did so. He stressed that Islam always was one of the pillars of the Russian statehood. In another historical speech, Vladimir Putin called Russia "most reliable and trustworthy defender of the interests of Muslim faith" and "one of the pillars of the Islamic world."

Indeed, Russia is a successor to the good traditions of all Eurasian cultures and peoples, nations and faiths.

We can rightfully consider ourselves legal successors of not only USSR, Russian Empire, Moscow and Kievan Rus but also Volga Bulgaria, Golden Horde and the states of Caucasus dating back to the time of the companions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Moscow Jum'ah Mosque is a symbol of our faith, of our unity! The day of the opening of the mosque, 9th day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah is now not only a milestone in the history of Russia's Muslims but also a national event and good tidings for the whole Muslim world.

The new look of the mosque whose minarets remind both of the Spasskaya Tower of Moscow Kremlin and an elegant Suyumbike Tower in Kazan demonstrate the irreversible strive of Russian Islam towards its spiritual roots, to the Eurasian fundamentals of Russian civilization and statehood.

The plan of the reconstruction of the mosque was approved by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. This ambitious project would also meet much more difficulties without the help from capital city authorities.

A special role in this belongs to the mayor Sergey Sobyanin who put all efforts into the completion of this ambitious project. We ask Allah to reward thousands upon thousands of common supporters who donated money for the construction, as well as architects and construction workers who made this dream come true.

I want to express our special gratitude to our brother Suleyman Kerimov, a generous and dignified son of Dagestan. He and his charity fund donated 170 million dollars for the reconstruction of the main mosque of the capital city of Russia and the whole country.

With great joy I welcome the President of the Turkish Republic Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a head of a state that made a tangible contribution to the reconstruction and the building of the Moscow Jum'ah Mosque. We thank the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas who volunteered to take part in this project on behalf of the Palestinian nation. I would also like to thank the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and all those who made doors of our mosque open for believers again.

I am sure that the main mosque of Russia will continue to benefit our country's spiritual and national sovereignty, promote interfaith and interethnic peace, solidarity and concord between our people, rapprochement of Russia and the Islamic world in the name of partnership and mutual understanding.
