On Thursday, November 19, on the initiative of the Government of Moscow and on the invitation of the Chairman of Russia Muftis Council and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, Moscow Jum'ah Mosque was visited by a high-ranked delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Tehran City mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
The meeting was attended by the head of the department of ethnic politics, interregional relations and tourism of the City of Moscow Vladimir Chernikov, first RMC and SAM RF deputy chairman Rushan hazrat Abbyasov and first SAM RF deputy chairmen Damir hazrat Gizatullin and Damir hazrat Muhetdinov.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the old historical ties existing between the Muslims of Russia and Iran, expressed their mutual interest in continuing their cooperation in preserving peace and concord within the society, overcoming alienation and eradicating religious enmity.
Spiritual leader of Russian Muslims mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin highlighted the cooperation of the parties in a number of projects, including the Ramadan Tent, Moscow International Qur'an Reciting Competition, Al-Quds Day and others. He especially stressed this year's common project with the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran: the First Moscow International Qur'anic Festival.
Mayor of Tehran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf thanked the head of Russia Muftis Council and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin for warm reception and fruitful cooperation in their common task of preserving and spreading the true values of Islam.
In the end of the visit, Mr Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was shown around Moscow Jum'ah Mosque. The Iranian delegation that offered their daily prayers there was very impressed with the beauty and monumentality of the mosque.
