Mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, Chairman of Russia Muftis Council and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation, attended festive anniversary events at Red Square and in Kremlin devoted to the Victory Day.

On this anniversary year, year of the 70th anniversary of our victory in the most dreadful war of XX century, we greet all generations of Russians, our countrymen: on May 9, Russia and the whole reasonable world celebrate the Day of Victory over Nazism, triumph of reason over delirium and darkness, victory of the people of the world in the Great Patriotic War, in Second World War.

We welcome our dear veterans whose heroism both in the battlefield and in the rear secured the victory of the forces of good over the black horror of war, victory over Nazi terror.

Since time immemorial, our country has survived a lot of wars. But the most dreadful, bloody and hard one ended not so long ago. Our children can learn about battles of old from their teachers and textbooks, but the story of the Great Patriotic War is still with us and can be conveyed to us by its participants, heroes and live witnesses, all those who made contribution to the Victory.

They are very few, our veterans and heroes, and their numbers are shrinking with each coming year. Our yet-to-be-born generation will not have a chance to meet the heroes of the war that began in the June of 1941 and is known as the Great Patriotic War.

This war lasted 1418 days and nights. 27 million of our citizens perished in the war. The Great Patriotic War ended in 1945 with our total victory.

Today, 70 years after the war ended, the importance of Victory is not vanishing; on the contrary, it is growing. That victory reminds us of a triumph of will over the overindulgence of Fascism, over the arrogance of Nazism; it was, in essence, a victory over an ugly attempt to establish authority of one nation over the others.

A world region followed by almost a quarter of the earth's populace, Islam teaches us with the words of our Prophet's farewell sermon: "All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black, nor a black has any superiority over a white; nobody can have any superiority over anyone except in piety and good action."

The grandeur of the Victory manifests itself in the fact that we, generation of children, grandchildren and now great-grandchildren of those who shielded the world from Nazi menace, are as sure in the righteousness of our deeds and our beliefs as they were.

We continue to resist all manifestations of Fascist ideology. We shall not let anyone desecrate our past, we shall not let anyone rewrite our history in favour of those who crave for power in order to reshape the world in their favour, dictating their terms from the position of strength.

We honour the Day of Victory and pass on this right to the great-grandchildren of our dear victors, we welcome all deeds and projects celebrating and strengthening the centuries-old unity of the peoples of Russia.

We pray to Allah Almighty, asking him for peace and prosperity on earth; we pray for the end of all armed conflicts in all regions of our planet, we pray for understanding and friendship between peoples and nations, we pray for the well-being of our country and its many peoples.
