Rushan hazrat Abbyasov: Islam has nothing to do with terrorism On Thursday, October 24, Rushan hazrat Abbyasov, deputy chairman of Russia Muftis Council, made a statement on the recent tragic events for the media in the press center of Argumenty i Fakty weekly.

In the beginning of the press conference, Rushan hazrat offered his deepest condolences to the family of Egor Shcherbakov, relatives of people who died in a terrorist act in Volgograd and all the victims of national and religious intolerance.

"Russia Muftis Council reaffirms its strong position of denouncing all forms of extremism and radicalism, the spread of which these days became global and started posing real threat to the social well-being of society, interethnic and interfaith accord, state and public security.

The organizers and perpetrators of these crimes will be severely punished by Almighty God in the hereafter, for it is said in the Holy Qur'an: "But whoever kills a believer intentionally - his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally"
, said Rushan hazrat Abbyasov.

Deputy chairman of Russia Muftis Council told of the concerns of religious authorities over the arson attack on mosque and Muslim prayer hall in Volgograd soon after terrorist attack, before anyone could be proved guilty. He also especially stressed that the people behind the terrorist acts have a clear goal of creating informational disparity within the society and inciting ethnic and religious hatred.

"The mission of mass media in these circumstances is to prevent this fr om happening. Unfortunately, the events of last three days show that with all their actions and conduct, their statements and their style of presenting information, the media plays into the hands of terrorists. We receive many reports about attacks on girls and women who observe the rulings of Islam, on people of non-Slavic looks," he added.

Answering the questions of the media, RMC deputy chairman told of their serious work on religious education that goes on in all Moscow and regional mosques, Muslim communities and Islamic educational institutions.

"Working with the government, we do everything to help our youth get religious education, to give them proper understanding of Islam and let them make right choice in their lives. I would especially like to mention creation of Islamic cultural and religious centres, women's organizations like Russian Muslimas Union. Besides that, we organize charity events that are attended by our young generation—unfortunately, this is not covered by the media," said Rushan hazrat.

RMC deputy chairman told of the growing demand for new mosques both in the capital and in the regions. "We must build new mosques and Islamic schools to give our Muslims right understanding of their religion and not force them into doubtful private flats and basements wh ere they can be taught things completely alien to Islam," he added.

In the end of press conference, Rushan hazrat Abbyasov stressed that Russia Muftis Council and Russian Muslims are ready for dialogue and close cooperation with the government, religious and non-governmental organizations in order to maintain and strengthen good neighbourly relations within Russia's multiethnic and multiconfessional society.
