On Monday, March 21, a meeting between the head of Russia Muftis Council and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin and the Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of the State of Qatar sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani took place in the residency of His Highness Emir of the State of Qatar on Monday, March 21.
The meeting was also attended by the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Russian Federation in Qatar Nurmahmad Kholov.
During the meeting, spiritual leader of Russian Muslims mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin greeted the minister on behalf of the nation's leaders and the 23-million Ummah of Russia.
"Russia's Muslims are full-fledged citizens of their country enjoying the rights and freedoms guaranteed to them by the Constitution. This has been emphasized by our country's leader Vladimir Putin on various international meetings and events," said mufti.
The Prime Minister, in his turn, mentioned the recent top-level visit of the Head of the State of Qatar sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Moscow.
"Within the framework of activation of our bilateral relations, we consider religious cooperation as important as other aspects. We must continue working in this area as well," said the head of the Cabinet of Ministers.
"The signing of the memorandum of understanding between Russia Muftis Council and the Ministry of Islam and Wakuf of our country would be a major step in this direction," added sheikh Al Thani.
Mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, in his turn, stressed the role of Qatar as an intermediary in many international projects.
"Islam is a religion of peace and creation bringing society prosperity and progress and has nothing to do with radicalism and extremism," added the Prime Minister of Qatar.
"We wholeheartedly support and welcome the Russian initiative of deepening our relations, including such areas as economy, finance, investment, education and halal industry," he said.
In the end of the meeting, the parties wished well-being to each other's nations and good health to their corresponding leaders.
It is worth reminding that the joint delegation of Russia Muftis Council and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation headed by RMC and SAM RF Chairman mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin arrived to Qatar on March 19 to begin its tour of the Persian Gulf countries. In the coming days, the delegation is going to visit the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The official visit of the Russian delegation is covered in major Arab and Muslim media. The visit of the spiritual leader of Russia's Muslims mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin is aimed at bringing the two countries closer together, joining efforts in the development of humanitarian and educational programs aimed at supporting traditional values and countering extremism and radicalism.
During today's phone conversation between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Emir of Qatar sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the two leaders agreed to continue their cooperation on the Syrian dossier, including its humanitarian aspects. The visit of mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin and his meeting with sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani was one of a series of bilateral contacts between Russian and Qatari parties aimed at achieving the set goals.
