Today, during the 19th International Muslim Forum in Moscow, a Memorandum of Understanding and cooperation in the field of Islamic affairs and endowments was signed between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments of Algeria and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation.

The document was sgned by the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments of Algeria Youssef Belmehdi and chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin.

The document stipulates cooperation related to Islamic matters, Islamic sciences, endowments, zakat, pilgrimage and mosques.

The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria is one of Russia's leading partners on the African continent. During his meeting with Abdelmajid Tebboun in the Kremlin on 15 June 2023, Vladimir Putin said that the relationship with Algeria was of great importance and had a strategical meaning for Russia. In 2021, trade turnover between the two countries excelled $3bn. In 2022, Algeria ranked third in terms of commodity turnover.
