Meeting on preparation for Haj 2017 A meeting on preparation for the hajj season in 2017 took place in the Federation Council. The event was conducted under the direction of the Hajj officer of the Commission for the Affairs of Religious Associations under the Government of Russia, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, Ilyas Umahanov.

The meeting was attended by directors and representatives of Muslim religious organizations, as well as representatives of federal and regional authorities.

The first deputy chairman of the RMC and the SBMRF Rushan hazrat Abbyasov, and the director of the operator company of the Russia Muftirs council, “Muslim tour”, Ali haji Gurdin participated in the event on behalf of mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, Chairman of the Russia Mufties Council.

Ilyas Umahanov expressed gratitude to the Russian delegation led by Rushan hazrat Abbyasov for conducting negotiations with the Minister of Hajj, Muhammad Saleh Bantan, deputy Minister of Transportation Muhammad Simsim, deputy Minister of Hajj Hussein ash-Sharif.

In his turn, Rushan hazrat Abbyasov noted that during negotiations in Saudi Arabia the Minister of Haj Mr Bantan highly appreciated the level of haj organizations for Russian Muslims. He also mentioned the agreements signed during the meeting, in particular, regarding visa matters, reduction of additional fees for pilgrims and opportunity for foreigners residing in Russia to obtain haj visas.

Ilyas Umahanov said that the full quota was set this year, allowing 20500 Russian Muslims to go to haj. For the first time Saudi authorities allocated the quota of 1050 for foreigners living in Russia.

The director of Operation Regulation department of the Federal Air transport Agency, Andrey Kruglov, noted that due to rising fuel costs and higher air navigation charges imposed by Saudi Arabia, air tickets would become more expensive.

During the meeting the parties discussed preparations for haj in terms of Russian-Saidi Protocol on receiving Russian pilgrims during the haj season 2017 and the issues related to operators’ responsibility.
