Head of the Union of Muslim women of Russia participates in international conference On 9-10 November the headquarters of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg hosted the Exchange on the religious dimension of intercultural dialogue.
The role of education in the prevention of radicalisation leading to terrorism and violent extremism was the main theme of the conference. Over 150 participants attended the event, including representatives of different religious communities of Europe, politicians, representatives of civic institutions, international NGO, diplomatic missions, as well as some departments of the Council of Europe.
Mr Thorbjørn Jagland, General Secretary of the Council of Europe, made an opening speech, followed by the speeches of PACE President Pedro Agramunt and the Chair of the Human Rights Commission of the Conference of INGOs Michel Aguilar.
Chairwoman of the Union of Muslim women of Russia, Naila Ziganshina, participated in the work of one of the event's sections dealing with women's rights and opportunities and the role of family in fighting radicalism. In her speech Naila Ziganshina conveyed greetings from mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, chairman of the RMC and the SMBRF. She noted that Muslim women in Russia along with Muslim men participated actively in social life, making their own contribution to developing institution of the family, education and moral values of the young generation.
During the conference Naila Ziganshine also met the Deputy General Secretary of the Council of Europe and the Ambassador of Turkey in France.
