Russian, Chinese and CIS Muslims to fight extremism together Representatives of the Muslim communities of Russia, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan agreed on cooperation against extremism and terrorism. This decision was made at the thematic international conference held in Urumqi.
“Today we see that the leaders of our countries cam together in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Collective Security Treaty Organization and other organisations that fight with terrorism, extremism and radicalisation using political, economical and power methods. But we understand that in order to keep the youth away from ideologists preaching distorted Islamic principles we need to fight at the ideological level” — said Rushan Abbyasov, first deputy chairman of the RMC and the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation.
All conference participants agreed that Islam denied all radical ideas and condemned any form of extremism, radicalism and terrorism.
The initiative of holding a conference belonged to Mufti Ravil Gaynutdin, head of the RMC and the SBMRF. “The next conference might take place in Russia”, — said Mr Abbyasov. During the next conference the participants plan to adopt a programme that will define practical measures for fighting extremism (e.g. encouraging academic pursuits on this subjects and preparation of educational films).
