US Embassy in Moscow holds iftar dinner Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, heading a delegation of the RMC representatives and employees, visited the US Embassy in Moscow. The visit was due to the official invitation from the Embassy for iftar, the evening meal after a 19-hour fasting during the daytime in the month of Ramadhan.
It is widely known that iftars and Eid celebrations are held in the White House on behalf of the US President. In many countries the non-Muslim heads of states also organize such iftars to show respect to the Muslim citizens.

Anthony Godfrey, Minister-Counsellor for political affairs at the Embassy, said that this event was the first experience for the US Embassy in Moscow.

Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin expressed his condolences to Mr Godfrey upon the tragedy in Orlando.
The parties agreed that it was necessary to fight against terrorism. Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin noted that although military force was able to crush terrorists, it was crucial to eradicate the terroristic ideology itself, which was only possible by the means of another, more powerful ideology. That ideology had to be accepted in the whole world and should be based on peace.

“Our visit has nothing to do with politics, — said the leader of the Russian Muslims. — We represent spiritual diplomacy and try to solve all issues between our countries and nations by diplomatic means”.

The parties expressed the intention to maintain good and productive relations.
