In the Moscow Cathedral Mosque the Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council, Rushan Abbyasov, met a Chinese delegation led by the Vice President of the Islamic Association of China,  Hun Changyung. This was a reciprocal visit of the Chinese delegates to Russia, after the visit of RMC delegation led by Mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin to China in 2015, when a memorandum on cooperation was signed with the Islamic Association of China.

In the beginning of the meeting Rushan hazrat Abbyasov conveyed greetings fr om mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council and Spiritual board of Muslims. He also reminded about the previous visit of the Russian delegation to China, adding that the Russian Government and the Ministry of foreign affairs paid much attention to this event.

“During our visit to China we met Wan Zhengwei, Chairman of the Popular political advisory council of China. The main purpose was to extend the agreement with the Islamic Association. We discussed cooperation in different areas, our organizations are now working together on educational, cultural and art projects. For example, during the open day in the Moscow Cathedral mosque, a Chinese calligrapher Abubakr demonstrated his skills and conducted a workshop for everyone”, — he said.

Rushan hazrat Abbyasov also emphasized the role of the Interfaith Council of Russia in preventing negative occurrences. Its members of different religious backgrounds develop practical programmes for interfaith dialogue and cooperation.

“Cooperation is important for us, especially for the purpose of developing the Silk Route. We need to do our best to keep our traditional values. I’m convinced that cooperation between Russia and China in the religious field will contribute to general Russian-Chinese cooperation. Partnership in terms of religious relationships has a significant potential”, — he added.

The parties agreed on conducting a conference this July in Urumqi. The main theme of the conference should be opposition to extremism and terrorism. According to Rushan hazrat Abbyasov, mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin was the one who suggested holding this conference during his meeting with Wan Zhengwei, Chairman of the State committee of China on nationalities affairs. This conference should become an example for the young generation and show what one can do for the good of the society.

The Vice President of the Islamic Association of China said: “We value highly the role of the Russian Muftis Council, the Spiritual board of Muslims of the Russian Federation and personally mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin in the Russian society. These organizations’ activity is extensive and efficient. I should also note that you have a wide experience in resisting to terrorism. We are proud of your success. Islam is a religion of peace and stability, it rejects violence and hostility. We have a lot in common, we have common views on Islam development. The memorandum we signed last year ushered in a new era of our cooperation”.

During the visit Rushan hazrat Abbyasov also spoke about main projects of the Russian Muftis Council, namely about the Moscow International Qur’an Reciting Competition and the “Muslim” children’s camp in the Saratov region.

“We will be pleased to see Chinese participants at the Moscow International Qur’an Reciting competition, which will take place on 25 September this year. Apart fr om that, there is a unique project – a Muslim camp for children, wh ere over 100 children from different regions of Russia come for vacation and studying the basics of Islam. It will be an honour for us if children from China come to this camp this year”.

Hun Changyung approved this initiative and mentioned the need for discussing student exchange matters for studying in Islamic educational institutions. Apart from that, he stressed the need to expand cooperation in the halal industry area. In his turn, the first deputy chairman of the RMC reminded that on 2–5 June the Moscow Halal Expo Exhibition, wh ere dozens of companies from different countries participate every year, would take place in Moscow.

At the end of the meeting Rushan hazrat Abbyasov came forward with the initiative to form a Russian-Chinese working party for implementation of arrangements set forth in the previously signed memorandum. The Chinese party welcomed this suggestion.

In conclusion, the Russian and Chinese parties reiterated their intention to continue mutually beneficial cooperation for the good of both countries and exchanged gifts.

During their stay the delegates of the Islamic Association of China visited Moscow and Saint-Petersburg and explored the cities’ main historical sights.
